Point Mugu State Park is a great local campground offering a little bit of everything for everyone. There’s a beach with the surf break, a canyon lined with trails for the most avid hiker, runner or mountain biker, and undulating hills with a view on the Pacific Ocean for cycling fiends. Insider Information
- There are two different camping areas here one on the beach called Thornhill Broome and one across Pacific Coast Highway in Sycamore Canyon.
- There are sites reserved for hikers or bikers in the Sycamore Canyon section. These are secluded from the rest of the campsites and are great for overnight bike trips from Los Angeles or Ventura.
- The sites on the beach side are exposed and breezy but if the beach is your thing, this is the spot for you.
- The Sycamore Canyon campground is dotted with oak trees and near many of the hiking trails.
You are definitely helping my ‘to visit’ list grow!
Hello!
Thanks for the info. I love your recipes, photos, and passion for the outdoors. I just tried to reserve a site at Point Magu on reserveamerica.com, but were all sold out. We may have to try walking in and hope to get a site. Do you have any tips, advice or suggestions on how to have a better chance at securing a campsite?
Thanks!
Yes, most of the campsites in that area are almost impossible to get during the summer unless reserved well in advance (months). You should have good luck walking in at any point, though, or riding bikes. If you can go on a weekday, that helps as well. Good luck!
This view of the ocean is amazing!
