While I love how soft and wicking Icebreaker is, I will probably never buy another base layer from them.
Two years ago I splurged and bought a light purple base layer tshirt for my two week caving trip in the Montana wilderness. I wore it every day for those two weeks and I love how it felt, its wicking capabilities, and how perfect it was under a long sleeve base layer. HOWEVER, it understandably got dirty on the trip (even though I never wore it in the cave, it still got cave dirt on it). When I got home, I washed it like I did all my other base layers (which were also dirty from cave dirt - some of them worse!), and it looked just as dirty as it did before (while all my other gear was back to as clean as they were before the trip). I washed it in tech wash and it still looked just as dirty.
I brought it back to the store at which I purchased it, but unfortunately they were out of that color and size, so they sent it back to Ice Breaker for me (at the time their warrantee policy was written in such a way that sounded like if you were not satisfied for ANY reason within 90 days of purchase you could get a refund or replacement), however they did not replace my shirt. I still wear it, however I am absolutely dissatisfied knowing I spent between $60 and $90 on a shirt that will never look clean again.
