Frying is a pain, no matter where you’re doing it. It uses a ton of oil (that you have to figure out how to dispose of), makes the house smell like a fast food restaurant, and encourages owning big uni-purpose machines to avoid too much hassle.
The transition between summer and fall always brings a bounty of peppers, which are a great main ingredient for many camping recipes. I received a bunch of beautiful heirloom peppers recently in my farm box, and decided to use the roasted peppers and make a dip for a day trip to the beach.

I recently purchased a dehydrator, and have been getting more daring in my recipes. Most people I’ve spoken to mainly use their dehydrators for camping recipes like jerky and dried fruits and vegetables.
We’ve been making different versions of this Chickpea Flour Flatbread every day for lunch for the last week. In it’s unadorned form, this “flatbread” goes by many names, but I learned of it as Socca, it’s French name.
Our friend Adan (otherwise known as “Tallkan,” if you want to follow his adventures on Instagram) is on his yearly traditional trip to June Lake right now. We’re jealous.
We’re going to Banff in a few weeks, and I’m starting to get really excited about the possibility of seeing grizzlies, moose, caribou, wolves, and the insane wilderness of the Canadian Rockies! My excitement is reminding me that I’m in charge of the food for 4 people, and I better get prepping.
I don’t get many weekends off from work. When I get lucky with more than one day off in a row, I take advantage. This has lead to a bunch of fun quick trips so far this summer.
